What?
Games for a Laugh is a social board games group based in Abingdon Oxfordshire, open to anyone and everyone. We've been running weekly games evenings since summer 2014. We play a wide variety of board games and card games.
When?
We meet every Tuesday at 7:30pm (except for a few weeks around Christmas).
Where?
We meet at the King's Head and Bell, Abingdon. Most often you can find us at the front of the pub, by the fireplace; if we're not there, look for the table with a big stack of board games.
FAQs
- What games do you play?
We mostly play "modern" board games, card games and social games. We play games of all styles and complexity levels. If you'd like to see what we've been playing recently, games are usually logged here: BGG (jump to the most recent posts). - Do I just show up?
Yep! It can be helpful to let us know you're coming via Facebook, but it's not required. - Is it free to join/play?
Yes, it is free, but we encourage people to buy a drink (or food — there is a 2-for-1 offer on pizzas on Tuesday evenings) to support the pub, who have kindly let us use their space for free for more than a decade. - Should I bring games?
You are more than welcome to bring games, or not to, whichever you prefer. We normally start the evening by pitching any games we'd like to play and then breaking out into smaller groups to play them. - Is it ok to arrive after 7:30pm?
Yes, but it can make it trickier to find a space in a game. If you let us know on Facebook that you're going to be late, we can wait for you or hold a seat in a game for you. - Where can I park?
The King's Head and Bell doesn't have dedicated parking, but the council car parks in Abingdon town centre are all within a few minutes walk (West St Helen's Street Car Park, Civic Car Park, Cattle Market Car Park) and are free (with a ticket) from 7pm onwards. - How many players are there?
It varies week-to-week, but usually there are somewhere between 6 and 20 players from a larger number of regulars and irregulars. We normally split up into 2 to 5 games/tables. - What's the best way to get in touch?
We primarily coordinate through Facebook, but you can also find us on BGG or reach us via email.
